Terms of Service

Last updated: October 22, 2026

1. Who we are

Klarbooks (klarbooks.de) is operated by Oscar Rojas, Alt-Mariendorf 50, 12107 Berlin, Germany (see the Imprint). Klarbooks is not a tax advisory firm and provides no tax advice or any other help in tax matters within the meaning of the German Tax Advisory Act (StBerG). These terms govern the relationship between Klarbooks and people seeking a tax advisor ("you").

2. What Klarbooks does

We forward your verified request to independent German tax advisors (Steuerberater and Steuerbevollmächtigte) who work in the language you chose. If a tax advisor takes your request, they contact you to discuss whether and how they can help you.

We cannot guarantee that a tax advisor takes your request or that any particular outcome is achieved. If no tax advisor reacts within roughly 24 hours, we tell you and offer to try again. If the tax advisor who took your request can't continue with it, we tell you and offer it to the other tax advisors again. Information on this website is general information, built from several sources, not tax advice; deadlines mentioned are illustrative.

2a. Emails we send you

While we're working on your request we email you about its progress. We may email you once to ask how the service went. You can object at any time, at no cost — just reply or use the link in the email.

Anything beyond that — general tips on taxes and running a business, or offers from Klarbooks (see the Privacy Policy) — we only send if you opt in, and you can turn it off again from the platform or from any such email.

2b. Technical error monitoring

Klarbooks may use Sentry as a technical service provider to detect, diagnose and resolve software errors. This use is limited to technical diagnostics necessary to operate and improve the platform. When using Sentry, Klarbooks will restrict collection of personally identifiable information (PII) and apply filtering before transmission to exclude case descriptions, documents, correspondence, contact details, credentials and personal access links. Any processing of personal data remains subject to applicable data-protection law and the Privacy Policy.

3. What it costs

Klarbooks is free of charge for people seeking a tax advisor. Any work by the tax advisor is agreed directly between you and the tax advisor, whose fees follow the German fee regulation for tax advisors (StBVV). Klarbooks is not a party to that engagement and receives no share of the tax advisor's fees.

Klarbooks finances itself mainly on the tax advisor side: participating tax advisors may pay flat platform fees and fees for optional add-on services. These fees are independent of individual requests, are never a share of the tax advisor's fees, and never affect what you pay or which tax advisor gets your request.

Klarbooks may also show labelled advertising, including for partners' products and services. Advertising never affects which tax advisors see your request.

4. Your relationship with the tax advisor

The engagement, the tax advice, and the tax advisor's professional secrecy exist exclusively between you and the tax advisor. The tax advisors are independent professionals, not employees or agents of Klarbooks. We are not responsible for the content, quality, or outcome of their services.

4a. Your case file

Once a tax advisor takes your request, you and your tax advisor can share a case file on Klarbooks. You open it on your case page with your case number, your email address and a one-time code. In it, you and your tax advisor can exchange notes and documents and follow the progress of your matter.

Using the case file is optional. If you choose to use it, you consent to your tax advisor using Klarbooks as an external service provider for this specific engagement within the meaning of § 62a(5) of the German Tax Advisory Act (StBerG). This includes Klarbooks processing information and documents covered by your tax advisor's professional duty of confidentiality to the extent necessary to operate the case file. You may instead communicate with your tax advisor directly without using the case file.

You give this consent with the “Agree and open case file” button on your case page, and we record when you did. Until then, neither you nor your tax advisor can add notes or documents. If another tax advisor takes over your request, we ask you again. Klarbooks stores the case file on your tax advisor's behalf and looks at its content only as far as needed to run the service, for example to fix a fault. Everyone at Klarbooks is bound to confidentiality.

When something new is added, we email the other side that there is something new, never what it says. Don't rely on the case file alone for anything urgent or with a deadline — contact your tax advisor directly. A request is closed when you or your tax advisor close it, or automatically after six months without any activity; a closed case file can still be read but no longer added to, unless your tax advisor reopens it. Case files are deleted 12 months after your request is closed (see the Privacy Policy), so keep your own copies of important documents.

5. Your obligations

Use Klarbooks only for your own genuine tax matter or that of the business you act for, provide accurate contact information, and don't submit unlawful, abusive, or third-party content. We may decline or remove requests that violate these terms or that we cannot responsibly forward.

6. Liability

Klarbooks is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body, or health. For slight negligence we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment makes proper performance possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely), limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of free service. Liability under mandatory statutory provisions remains unaffected.

7. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation of a free service. Deadlines in your tax matter remain your responsibility until a tax advisor has taken your request.

8. Ending things, and your data

You can stop using Klarbooks at any time and request deletion of your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Final provisions

German law applies; if you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected. We are not willing or obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. We may update these terms for the future; the current version is always published here.
